A true partnership...
| Hastwell & Lightfoot is a partnership of old friends Mark & Wendy Hastwell and Martin & Jill Lightfoot. Happily after 21 years in business together, we are still old friends. The vineyard started back in late 1987 with the observation, "there has got to be something better to do than work in an office for the rest of your life". We found there was. In May '88 we bought our first property on the beautiful northern slopes of McLaren Vale. This purchase was 22 acres and vineyardless because the original vineyard had been pulled out in the famous vine pull of 1982. With the aid of the best viticultural advisor for miles around, Geoff Hardy, we started learning the job. By November '88 we had gone from a bare paddock to a 13 acre planted, trellised and irrigated vineyard. In 1989, as luck would have it, a 40 acre property became available 100 meters further up the hill. It was meant for us, so we started the process all over again, but this time with enough knowledge to know to develop it in small parcels! We have now completed the project and are proud of our 43 acres of vineyard planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Barbera, Chardonnay and Viognier. |
